The ministry’s press release reads:
The Ministry of Health wishes to inform the public that all pilgrims arriving at Banjul International Airport for the 2024 Hajj are required to undergo mandatory COVID-19 testing using a Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT).
Public health measures
We implore the public for their continued support and cooperation in efforts to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19 in the country. Returning pilgrims who tested positive at The Gambia International Airport are advised to observe the following safety precautions to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus:
- Maintain social distance and wear a mask at all times, and report to the nearest medical facility if needed
- If they become ill, they should go to the Ndemban clinic for appropriate medical care.
- Always wear a mask that fully covers your mouth and nose.
- Make sure your hands are clean when putting on and taking off the mask.
- Avoid poorly ventilated or crowded areas
- Open windows to improve ventilation
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use hand
- Widespread mask wearing should be promoted as the “new normal” for the foreseeable future, until viral transmission rates are extremely low or vaccination produces sufficient immunity in the general population
- Limit exposure to high-risk settings (such as crowded indoor gatherings)
Also critical to limiting the spread of COVID-19
- People should be encouraged to get vaccinated, including booster shots.
