Health insurers are investigating possible fraud at the now bankrupt commercial GP chain Co-Med. The investigation began a few months ago and is still ongoing. This was confirmed by a spokesman for CZ in Tilburg following a report by EenVandaag. CZ is the largest insurer and is coordinating the handling of the chain.
According to CZ, Co-Med showed signs of fraud, so an investigation was launched. A spokesperson for the health insurance company said: “Co-Med did not provide sufficient cooperation in this regard, so the investigation has not been completed.”
The TV show EenVandaag reported that Co-Med may have submitted many incorrect claims to insurance companies. CZ did not want to reveal any information because the investigation is still ongoing.
The insurer did not want to discuss possible consequences but said: “Generally speaking, if fraud is discovered after an investigation, it is reported to the prosecutor’s office and the results of the investigation are shared.”

Thousands of Brabanders have been without a GP since Co-Med closed its doors at the end of June. They must now find an alternative clinic where they can register as patients.
Co-Med bought practices across the country, mostly from GPs who wanted to retire and had no successors. Critics said the company was simply trying to make as much money as possible at the time. Co-Med had observers working in regular GP locations, with some patients only being seen in urgent care. The inspection concluded the practices were not easily accessible and had too few skilled staff available.
