A brisk step to match his athletic looks, a firm handshake, semi-long wavy hair, a look of curiosity and lust for life in his eyes – people imagine Methuselah to be different and totally different from the average person. However, it doesn’t help that Bernd Weng is the Methuselah par excellence of 1. FC Heidenheim.
By the fall of 2024, his boss will be 17 years old Frank Schmidt Regardless, the goalkeeping coach can easily outlast the audacious Bundesliga newcomer – an impressive 20-plus years. Weng was already at the club when it didn’t even exist, at least not in this form. At 16, as a “little boy from the countryside”, he moved from the country club to the region’s largest club, Heidenheimer SB, a popular sports club with multiple divisions that has been around since 1846.
