Former minister Harin Fernando said he and former minister Manusha Nanayakkara met then Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe while hiding in a Maruti car during the public protest.

Speaking at a UNP meeting at the UNP headquarters in Srikota yesterday, Harin Fernando said he would not be swayed by the court ruling ordering him to lose his parliamentary post.

He revealed that during the 2022 People’s Struggle, he had to travel in a Maruti car with Manusha Nanayakkara to meet Prime Minister Wickremesinghe because he was afraid he would be attacked.

After Phareen Ranandu decided to join Ranil Wickremesinghe’s cabinet in 2022, she said she removed her children’s computers from her home and sent her family to a safe place out of fear of an attack at home.

Hareen Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara supported Ranil Wickremesinghe in 2022 and were appointed as cabinet ministers when they were still members of Samagi Jana Balawega.

Later Samagi Jana Balawega expelled them from the party and took the matter to court.

Hareen Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara lost their parliamentary seats earlier this month after the Supreme Court ruled that Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s decision to suspend her from the party was legal.
