Iranian state television recently reported, and was cited by the Associated Press and Reuters, that Ismail Haniyeh, leader of the Palestinian Hamas group, was killed in Tehran early Wednesday morning.

Hamas issued a statement confirming that Ismail Haniyeh was killed in the Iranian capital.

Hamas also expressed condolences for the leader’s killing, saying in a statement that Haniyeh was killed in an attack they said was carried out by Zionists on his house in Tehran.
Haniyeh attended the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s new president on Tuesday.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, but Israel has vowed to kill the leader of the Hamas group.

Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh left the Gaza Strip in 2019 and has been living as a refugee in Qatar since then.
