Hamad bin Khalifa University hosted a special induction event for new students to celebrate the largest class since its founding, welcoming students for the 2024-2025 academic year.
This year, 569 graduate and undergraduate students participated in the orientation program, which introduced them to the college’s curriculum and provided them with an opportunity to explore the university’s facilities and interact with faculty and staff.
Students will begin studying academic courses in 44 different specializations that are in sync with the five main areas that underlie the economic, social and technological development of the State of Qatar, namely precision health, artificial intelligence, progressive education, sustainable development and social progress.
This year, Hamad bin Khalifa University celebrates welcoming its first undergraduate class of new bachelor’s degree programs in the university’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, including the Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, as these advanced programs cover important areas to support and develop Qatar’s economy and the future needs of the labor market in both the public and private sectors.
Dr. Alaa Al-Fuqaha, Acting Vice-President of Hamad bin Khalifa University, said in the statement that these new projects, added to the list of multidisciplinary scientific projects, reflect the university’s commitment to empowering human capabilities and advancing the development of the higher education system in Education City.
He added: “As we are a university whose mission and philosophy is innovation, we design our curriculum to ensure the development of the nation’s research capabilities and prepare the next generation to become leaders in their chosen fields.”
Dr. Maryam Al-Mannai, Vice-President for Student Affairs at the university, said: “The university’s staff is committed to enhancing students’ qualifications by enriching their extracurricular activities and helping them access many other valuable services to strengthen them personally and capacities. We also encourage new and current students to engage with Qatar Foundation’s integrated network of universities, research institutes and social enterprises to broaden their intellectual, academic, personal and professional horizons and visions.”
The new batch included 140 Qatari students, who joined their peers in discussions with university leaders and deans of faculties, providing opportunities for excellence for future generations, thereby enhancing the university’s rich record of contributing to the country’s human development in Islamic studies, humanities and social sciences, science, engineering, law and health sciences and public policy, where they learned about the university’s academic and research infrastructure.
Hamad bin Khalifa University, a member of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, is committed to helping students and graduates develop their skills by providing diverse and multidisciplinary educational and networking opportunities.
