P-au-P, August 30, 2024 (AlterPresse) – The Monitoring Office of the Agreement (Bsa) of August 30, 2021, known as the Montana Agreement, calls for the unity of all organized sectors of society against the excesses of the Presidential Transition Council (Cpt) and the government, the online agency AlterPresse said in a note.
Society must exert the necessary peaceful pressure to demand that the 3 April agreement, which contains clear instructions for the rule of law, be published, implemented and respected.
The Haitian Security Service condemned the actions taken to prevent the publication and implementation of the Peaceful and Orderly Transition Agreement signed on April 3 by the different Haitian actors, which aims to resolve the multifaceted crisis in Haiti.
Cpt members must comply with the April 3, 2024 agreement as required by law within a maximum of 30 days after taking office.
The Presidential Transition Council is the result of a consensus among different social and political sectors and consists of nine members. Installed at the Forbidden City in the early morning of Thursday, April 25, 2024.
According to the framework of the political agreement, the term of office of the Cpt is 22 monthsuntil the inauguration of the President elected at the polls in February 2026. This period cannot be extended under any circumstances.
The Montana Movement criticized that the non-disclosure of political decisions and violations of the April 3 agreement are aimed at perpetuating the traditional political system in a country plagued by insecurity, corruption and impunity.
Furthermore, the Anti-Corruption Bureau called for the resignation of all authorities implicated in corruption scandals in order not to hinder the work of the Prosecutor’s Office and other institutions fighting corruption and impunity.
He called for administrative and judicial investigations to identify, try and punish all corrupt elements within the Presidential Transition Council, the Government and the public administration as a whole.
Three (3) CPT members, Louis Gérald Gilles, Smith Augustin and Emmanuel Vertilaire, were indexed for alleged corruption by Raoul Pascal Pierre-Louis, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Banque Nationale de Crédit (BNC), and subsequently, following a hearing on Monday, August 6, 2024, the Anti-Corruption Unit (Ulcc) removed him from the BNC.
Several political and civil society organizations continue to call for the resignation of the three accused, supported by the sectors they represent in Cpt.
