Spirit Airlines resumes first flights
Spirit Airlines launched its first flight from the United States to Port-au-Prince on Thursday, with 103 passengers arriving and 230 departing. The flight marked a major milestone for Port-au-Prince airport, which had been closed for three months after an armed attack damaged its facilities.
Air Transat has yet to confirm a resumption date
Air Transat, which offers flights to Canada, remains undecided about a date to resume service. There are reports that tickets for September 2024 have been sold out. However, a person familiar with the matter said company officials are re-evaluating the situation.
5 counterfeiters arrested
On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the Ctefh of the Prosecutor’s Office of Ronald Richmond of Les Cayes arrested five people. They are accused of belonging to a network of counterfeiters operating in several municipalities in the Southern Province. These counterfeiters, posing as government commissioners, have managed to defraud several people.
Two guns stolen, 18 employees detained by police

June 6, 1944: Tribute to Haitian Philip Kiefer
On the anniversary of D-Day and the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, French Ambassador to Haiti Fabrice Morieux paid tribute to Philippe Kiefer, who was born in Port-au-Prince in 1899 and led a commando group of 177 Free French heroes in the battle of June 6, 1944.
11,000 hectares of land restored
As part of World Environment Day, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID-Haiti) reaffirmed its commitment to working with Haitian communities to improve their ability to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to the impacts of climate change. Through the Northern Resilient Landscapes Project, USAID plans to restore 11,000 hectares of land and help 50,000 farmers adopt climate-resilient agricultural practices. In addition, USAID is supporting stakeholders in the three sub-basins of Les Perches, Bahon, and Joli Trou to strengthen their environmental governance capacity.
