Open letter to members of the Presidential Transition Committee (CPT) dated July 31, 2024

Dear Members of the Presidential Council,
The signatory feminist organizations publicly expressed concerns about the process of appointing the members of the Electoral College initiated by the CPT, especially due to its hasty and exclusive nature and lack of transparency. These concerns were reignited when the signatories learned through the media that the process involving the women’s organization sector was carried out in secret on July 20. On July 22, the name of Ms. Yves Marie Édouard was mentioned as a candidate for election as a member of the CEP, and on July 24, a second name was added, Ms. Josette Macillon.
The CPT selected two organizations to co-lead the process, Fanm Yo La and DIFE (Dialogue among Women). In reality, the process was unilaterally implemented by DIFE in an opaque and chaotic manner. This situation caused protests from different women’s groups, but did not lead to an official response from the CPT.
The feminist organizations that signed the document believe that the process carried out by DIFE is not credible because its conduct was clearly flawed. The signatories ask the CPT to take steps to restore the process. This must be done in a rigorous, transparent manner and according to participatory criteria and clear procedures. The appointment of electoral advisors on a sound basis is one of the prerequisites for achieving credible and uncontested elections in the future.
