The deputy secretary for gun reform and justice said the president of the Police Association is going crazy because he is not getting the results he wants.

But McGee told Checkpoints She already had input from the entire police department, so she didn’t need the Police Association’s input.
“We are having targeted consultations on some of the legislative changes we want to deliver during this term of government, and while the Police Association felt it was excluded, we have in fact included New Zealand Police, which represents all frontline police, not just those who are part of the union.”
Mr McKee said the Police Association would have the opportunity to make submissions during the select committee’s deliberations.
“No legislation has actually been drafted yet and we have said that all legislation will be subject to consultation and will be referred to a select committee,” she said.
“At this very early stage it is not necessary for every entity to be involved and the Police Association will be able to put forward their views in the near future as we begin to move these proposals forward.”
McKee added that the groups being consulted were set up by the previous Labor government and, to her knowledge, had not changed since then.
