“Working conditions are one of the important things. It’s one of the things that I discuss frequently with the Colonel and the Major. Because of the shortage, we are asking officers to work more than 43 hours a week. It costs a lot of money just to support the Safe Schools program and officers are actually working an extra 12 hours a week on top of the funding. We have to make sure that there is a cap on overtime for officers, not to save money, but to help officers recover because the last thing you want on duty is a tired officer, overworked and exhausted,” said Police Chief Stephen Ignacio.
