The Minister of the Interior and the new chairman of Hlas-SD Matúš Šutaj Eštok and the leader of SaS Branislav Gröhling agree on the need to return culture to politics. On the talk show TA3 V Polity on Sunday, the Minister of the Interior announced that everything will be done to investigate the assassination of Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD). Gröhling also called for a joint meeting of political leaders in parliament to develop ways of communication and operation. Both refused to accept violence.
“As new political leaders, we should meet and define the communication, politics and working methods of the National Assembly of the Slovak Republic (NR),” Grolin said. He noted that the landscape of party leaders is currently changing and congratulated Sutaj Eštok on his election as party chairman. Now, he sees an opportunity to unite and build a joint communication, despite their different political views.
Šutaj Eštok is happy that there is such a will. He believes that everyone must engage in some form of self-reflection. He agrees that although the parties have different opinions, they should respect each other. If they all agree that the political culture should return to the level of the struggle of opinions, they will agree.
Both called for the refraining from spreading unnecessary false information regarding the investigation into the Prime Minister’s assassination. The Interior Minister stressed that an investigation into the attack is ongoing. According to him, they are looking into the version in which the attacker worked alone, as well as the version in which he collaborated with others.
Grolin called for accountability, such as that of the head of the Office of the Protector of the Constitutional Officer. He did not know whether the motion to dismiss the minister would eventually be submitted to Parliament. He believed that it was legal to submit such a proposal. However, he did not want the “Institute” to be discredited because of the large number of people. Personally, he would prefer to discuss the possibility of setting up a committee related to the investigation.
Sutaj Estok responded by saying that the assassin attacked not because he mapped the security situation and the number of security guards, but because he disagreed with the prime minister’s policies. He announced that he would do everything to investigate the crime. He believes that even political parties should call on their sympathizers and the public not to condone such crimes. As SaS mentioned, he does not see the space and necessity for a commission.
As for the post of Slovak National Assembly Speaker, Šutaj Eštok reiterated the nomination of Investment Minister and Hlas-SD Deputy Chairman Richard Raši. He declared that he is interested in the stability of the government coalition. However, he insisted that the current coalition agreement stipulates the right of Hlasu-SD to hold this position and it must be respected.
