The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests including Turkish Ambassador His Excellency Turk Oba, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Abraham Mendi, heads of security services, various police chiefs and leaders of other security agencies.
Inspector General of Police Seedy Mukhtar Touray expressed his deep gratitude for the substantial donation which included uniforms, combat boots, bulletproof vests, helmets and other essential equipment for the elite special operations forces.
He highlighted the multifaceted support provided by Turkey, including capacity building, training programmes and educational opportunities, which have significantly enhanced the operational capabilities of the Gambia Police Force.
Additionally, Chief Superintendent Touré outlined ambitious plans to build a state-of-the-art Police Academy with the support of Turkey and reiterated the Force’s goal of achieving unparalleled professionalism, responsiveness and compliance with human rights.
Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Ebrima Bah also expressed gratitude to the Turkish Police for their timely and continuous support, stressing that the donated equipment played an important role in improving police effectiveness.
Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Interior, Abraham Mendi, stressed the government’s commitment to strengthening the partnership between The Gambia and Turkey.
His Excellency Ambassador Turk Oba detailed the comprehensive training and support initiatives provided by the Government of Turkey and reiterated their continued commitment to assisting the Gambia Police Force.
The event concluded with a formal inspection of the donated items, symbolizing the enduring collaboration and shared goals between the two countries.
The Gambia Police Force is committed to working with stakeholders and partners to advance the reform agenda and improve public safety.
