The inflation rate of the HICP index rose slightly in JulyThe latest data released by the National Statistics Office today showed that in July, the annual inflation rate measured by the Harmonized Consumer Price Index was 2.3%, higher than 2.2% in May.

The eurozone’s full-year inflation rate was 2.6%.

The ONS noted that the highest annual inflation rates in July were in miscellaneous goods and services (4.5%) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.1%).

The lowest annual inflation rates were in communications (-12.2%) and furniture, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-0.9%).

The largest upward contribution to the overall annual inflation rate was the restaurant and hotel index (+0.77 percentage points), mainly due to rising prices for food and beverage services.

The largest decline was in the communications index (-0.46 percentage points), mainly reflecting the decline in prices of mobile phone services.

The 12-month moving average rate was 3.3% in July, the NSO said.
