The latest data released by the National Statistics Office today showed that in July, the annual inflation rate measured by the Harmonized Consumer Price Index was 2.3%, higher than 2.2% in May.
The eurozone’s full-year inflation rate was 2.6%.
The ONS noted that the highest annual inflation rates in July were in miscellaneous goods and services (4.5%) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.1%).
The lowest annual inflation rates were in communications (-12.2%) and furniture, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-0.9%).
The largest upward contribution to the overall annual inflation rate was the restaurant and hotel index (+0.77 percentage points), mainly due to rising prices for food and beverage services.
The largest decline was in the communications index (-0.46 percentage points), mainly reflecting the decline in prices of mobile phone services.
The 12-month moving average rate was 3.3% in July, the NSO said.
