Nature restoration law comes into effect today Today, the Nature Recovery Act comes into force and BirdLife Malta says “we are here for it”.

BLM stressed that today is a truly historic moment as the law sets legally binding targets for member states to restore 20% of land areas and 20% of oceans by 2030, and all ecosystems in need of restoration by 2050.

The law officially came into effect Approved in June, Thank you to Austrian Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler who stepped up at the last minute, reversed the country’s previous position and upheld the law.

BirdLife International said that this day was achieved after years of advocacy and activities by the “Restore Nature” movement, aimed at promoting the smooth passage of the Nature Restoration Act.

Over the past few years, more than one million citizens have submitted signatures and messages, and more than 6,000 scientists, more than 100 companies, youth organizations and civil society from all sectors have continued to call for the defense of the law and the integrity of the EU Green Deal.
