“More investment is needed in pedestrianisation and sidewalk safety,” said Zminijietna, a left-wing think tank.
“The public urgently needs accessible and safe sidewalks in their neighbourhoods. This is an important factor for social well-being,” the group said on Sunday.
“The statement from the Local Councils Association that the money promised for pedestrianised streets ‘never arrived’ is very sad,” Zminijietna added.
The group believes that “broken pavement, lack of curbs, illegal dumping of garbage bags on the pavement throughout the day and abuses by commercial entities have made life difficult for many.”
It adds that “pedestrianization of streets can create attractive public spaces, encourage people to walk, use public transportation more, and foster a sense of community.”
On a positive note, Zminigitna highlighted the various projects Malta has implemented in this regard. “For example, investments in the re-planning of the Msida-Pieta seaside promenade.”
