The Office for National Statistics said today that annual inflation, as measured by the Retail Prices Index, was 1.3% in June, down from 1.5% in May.
The biggest contributor to overall annual inflation was the food index (+0.58 percentage points), which, as in previous months, was mainly due to higher takeaway prices.
The largest decline was in the transport and communications index (-0.41 percentage points), mainly reflecting a drop in the prices of mobile phone services.
The 12-month moving average rate was 2.9% in June.
