Nominations are now open for the ninth edition of the Gozo Sports Awards, organised by Gozo Services and the Gozo Planning Department
The awards recognise the dedication and achievements of Gozo athletes and reward their progress across a range of sports.
Athletes may be nominated by their respective Gozo Associations, Gozo Clubs based on performances and achievements in the applied category at events held in Gozo, Malta or abroad in 2023.
Applications open now Can be completed online. These must be submitted by midday on Wednesday 17 July.
The results will be announced at the finals evening on Wednesday 21 August.
The following are the categories in which awards will be given:
Officer of the Year: Those who hold management positions in associations, clubs or activities
Coach of the Year: Qualified persons recruited through association, club or regional selection
Team of the Year: Representing Gozo or a local club team
To honour active athletes aged 45 and over (selected by the Gozo Planning Department Services)
Recognition for Sports Careers (selected by the Gozo and Planning Department Services)
Special Olympics Special Recognition (Selected by Gozo Planning Services)
Promising Young Women: Young women aged 21 or under who have represented Gozo or a local club
Promising Young Male: Young men aged 21 or less who have represented Gozo or a local club
Female Athlete of the Year: A female athlete representing Gozo or a local club who is not nominated in the Young and Promising Female Athlete category
Athlete of the Year: Athletes who have not been nominated in the Promising Young Male category, representing Gozo or a local club
It was explained that an individual can nominate another person only if there is no corresponding sports club or association. If there is an association or club, an individual cannot submit a nomination. ??
