A 29-year-old Ukrainian man died on Tuesday afternoon after he got into trouble while swimming in Gozo
Police said the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. in De Vera Bay, on the border of St. Lawrence.
Police immediately rushed to the scene, with some pointing out where the swimmer was last seen at sea.
Members of the Malta Civil Defence Force and the Armed Forces were immediately requested to assist in the search and rescue operation at the scene.
Police said that after about three hours of searching, the body was found at sea and brought to the shore of Mgarr Port, where it was confirmed that he was the same man.
Magistrate Dr Simone Grech has appointed a magistrate to conduct an investigation.
The police are investigating the case.
