Governor, His Excellency David Kap, has called on citizens of the country not to rely on Members of Parliament for cash handouts.

The Governor made the call during his speech in Parliament on Monday.

Honourable Kapu said the dependency mentality poses challenges to society.

“Our people should not be overly dependent on MPs for cash handouts to meet their daily needs,” he said.

Karp added that widespread reliance on handouts continues to foster a sense of entitlement in society.

He noted that individuals often expect MPs to meet their demands, thereby shaping perceptions of government performance based on personal interests rather than the delivery of public services.

“This dependency mentality poses significant challenges and we must address this attitude promptly,” he said.

At the same time, the Governor concluded his speech by saying: “We must cultivate the land and work hard to earn a living”.

“Genesis chapter 3 verse 19 also says, and I quote, By the sweat of your face you will eat your bread, until you return to the ground, for from it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you will return.”
