Chicago (USA)—— Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz accepted the Democratic nomination on Wednesday as a vice presidential candidate alongside Kamala Harris.
“It is the honor of a lifetime to accept your nomination for vice president of the United States,” Walz told a cheering crowd at the Chicago stadium where the Democratic National Convention is being held.
Waltz began his speech by thanking Harris for her confidence in him and inviting him to the campaign. He also thanked Biden for his “four years of strong, historic leadership,” prompting sporadic chants of “Thank you, Joe” from the crowd.
“We gather here tonight for one beautiful and simple reason: we love this country,” Walz said.
Walz described himself as “a real person who can make real change” and showcased his defense of Social Security, reproductive rights and public education aid.
The new Democratic vice presidential candidate and favorite of the party’s most progressive wing said “health care and housing are human rights.”
“It’s the first half, we’re down by one goal, but we’re attacking, we have the ball,” said the candidate, a teacher and American football coach who has been nicknamed “Coach Waltz” by his followers.
«Kamala Harris is ready. “Now, for everyone who sees us, our job is to get in the trenches and take every inch of the block and defense, every yard, every call, every knock, every five-dollar donation,” he said.
The Democratic vice presidential candidate also defended gun control and recalled that he was a much better hunter than many of the Republican members of Congress he worked with for more than a decade as a lawmaker in Washington. JS
