The Press Secretary of the office of Central Equatoria State Governor, Augustino Jadara Wani, said his boss has completed 100 days in office and has already achieved several things.
Wak Simon Vudu told a news conference at the State Secretariat in Juba on Thursday that his boss, who assumed office on May 3, reshuffled a number of officials, banned spending by state institutions and directed that all expenditures be channelled through the Ministry of Finance.
He noted that some of the governor’s achievements include restoring jobs in some redundant departments and ensuring that all state revenues were banked.
“When the governor came into office, he found that the revenue generating agencies were diverting funds to state activities and he immediately banned the practice and directed that the state Ministry of Finance and Planning manage the expenditures,” he said.
Wudu also disclosed that the governor had found many officials guilty of irregularities in the management of state affairs and had set up three committees to investigate the state of state assets and assess the workforce.
“The three committees were formed to ensure effective management of state resources, transparency and accountability, and implementation of state policies,” he said. “The committees have completed their respective mandates and submitted reports to the governor on next steps.”
The governor’s spokesman revealed that his boss had also directed that all official state transactions must be conducted through the bank.
“The revenues of the tax authorities are now remitted to the bank, which is contrary to the system of physical transfers in cash that the governor found, providing loopholes for the misuse of public resources,” Wu Dujian said.
He stressed that the state treasury was no longer providing cash to state agencies and the governor had directed that the money be transferred to the bank accounts of these agencies.
However, Wudu said Governor Jadara’s performance has been negatively affected by the economic difficulties the country is currently facing.
