AMBONE, Maluku (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is seeking to provide electricity to underdeveloped, border and most remote (3T) areas through the construction of concentrated solar power plants (PLTS) in Maluku Province.
Said Ratubono, head of energy at the Maluku Energy and Mineral Resources Office, said here on Saturday that the centralized PLTS has a total capacity of 99 kilowatt peak (kWp) and is currently being constructed using funds from the 2024 national budget.
He said that the centralized PLTS is being constructed in Neila and Tiflean villages in Tuar municipality and will cover 140 households.
The network length is 5,720 meters, the potential PLTS area is 2,500 meters, and the capacity is 39.6 kWp.
Besides, a power line communication system is also being constructed in Ujir village in Aru Island district with a capacity of 59.4 kWp which will cover 168 households.
Ratubono said the construction of a centralized electricity transmission system in Maluku province is part of the government’s plan to increase people’s equal access to energy.
He added: “The government remains committed to providing equitable energy access for all, especially in the 3T areas which are yet to be electrified.”
Previously, the government used the state budget and the Maluku Special Allocation Fund (DAK) to carry out centralized public electrified railway construction in Maluku province between 2012 and 2023.
In 2023, PLTS with a total capacity of 92.8 kWp were built in two villages, Kolaha and Waria, in Aru Island County.
He pointed out that the state-owned electricity company PT PLN Persero, which is also building the PLTS, is tasked with providing electricity to the people, a task that is a challenge for it despite Indonesia’s vast territory.
“The communities must have electricity; they should not live in darkness. Therefore, the state provides electricity, especially in the 3T areas,” he said.
