The government has announced special leave for government employees who were unable to go to work in May and June this year due to floods, landslides and road blockages.
The leave is applicable to officials in Colombo, Kalutara, Gampaha, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Puttalam, Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa, Kegalle and Ratnapura districts.
Government employees who are displaced due to disruptions in public transportation services or who are directly affected by natural disasters will be eligible for this special leave.
The notification regarding this leave was issued by Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Pradeep Yasaratne.
Besides, the government has also approved a stipend of Rs 3,000 to retired government employees from September next year.
The decision was approved at the Cabinet meeting held on July 24, 2024.
Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said the allowance will be provided to pensioners until the existing wage gap is addressed.
