Jakarta(ANTARA) –
The Ministry of Communications and Information is partnering with a leading global technology company to offer cloud computing certification to students.
In addition to certification, under the partnership agreement, selected students will also receive training to hone their skills as digital talents.
“This cloud computing learning will provide students who are just entering the industry with practical cloud computing skills and meet the needs of the industry and the current technology-based job market,” Nezhar Patria, deputy minister of Nigeria’s Ministry of Communications and Informatics, said on Thursday.
Initially, the collaboration will involve 21 private and state universities in Indonesia.
Participating students are expected to become entry-level workers proficient in generative artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, cybersecurity, and cloud engineering.
Patria stressed that the existence of similar programs can increase the number of digital talents, especially skilled cloud computing workers, who are necessary to accelerate the country’s digital transformation.
He said this was also in line with the Digital Indonesia Vision (VID) 2024, a strategy to strengthen the country’s digital ecosystem.
“The initial phase of the scheme aims to provide benefits to 8,500 students in the next 12 months, with plans to expand the coverage to cover more students in metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas,” he said.
The global tech company involved in the collaboration is Google, through a program called Google Cloud Career (GCC) Launchpad.
The program is free and will offer certifications in Cloud Computing Fundamentals, Cloud Engineering, Cloud Data Analytics, Cloud Cybersecurity, Badge Cloud Digital Leadership Skills, and Badge Generating Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) Skills.
The programme will be integrated into the ministry’s Digital Talent Scholarship and Diploy (digital employment) platforms so that participants can access information about internships and job vacancies through these platforms.
Fanly Tanto, country director of Google Cloud Indonesia, said the program will enable students from 21 higher education institutions to obtain Google Cloud certificates, thereby opening up job opportunities.
Tanto said she hopes to get more higher education institutions, government agencies and non-profit organizations involved in the initiative to build a more equitable and inclusive skills-based talent ecosystem.
The GCC Launchpad program will open in September 2024 and will be delivered through the Digital Talent Scholarship Platform.
