Google has unveiled its first smartphone powered by its artificial intelligence system, called Gemini.

Google Google on Tuesday announced new artificial intelligence features coming to Android devices. The move to bring its Gemini AI assistant to supported devices is another sign that Google is aiming to get its AI in front of consumers. applewhich will Launching artificial intelligence on iPhoneMac and iPad will be available later this year.

Google doesn’t make a lot of money from its hardware business, but the latest Android features could help bring in new revenue through the company’s Gemini AI subscription program.

“We are completely reconstruction “Gemini’s intelligent assistant experience is so good that you can talk to it as naturally as you would to another person. It understands your intent, follows your train of thought and completes complex tasks,” Sameer Samat, president of Android ecosystem, said in a blog post on Tuesday.

“Starting today, you can bring up Gemini’s overlay over the app you’re using to ask questions about what’s on your screen,” Samat wrote. According to Google, the feature will be available for hundreds of phone models from dozens of device manufacturers.

Google has had some AI features in Android before, but this year is the first time it has emphasized new capabilities driven by large AI language models installed on the device.

One example the company provided is a user who uploaded a photo of a concert listing and asked Gemini to check their calendar for availability, after which Gemini would check Google Calendar. If the user’s schedule was available, Gemini would create a reminder to check ticket prices later that evening.

The Assistant can also use information from Google apps to perform tasks.

“For example, Gemini can help you create a daily exercise plan based on your personal trainer’s emails, or write a job resume using your resume in Google Drive,” the company said in its blog post.

The company also said that a user might ask the Gemini assistant to draft an email and “make a picture of a cake for someone who loves space,” and the assistant could create that picture and attach it to the email. Or, on YouTube, a user could ask Gemini a question about the content of a video.

You can also ask what’s on your phone’s screen in other apps, such as Maps, Flights, and Gmail. Google says it’s working on adding support for third-party extensions, which means developers may be able to add the option to their apps later.

Gemini’s assistant has multiple voices. Users can have human-like conversations through Gemini’s “Live” feature, which is the company’s First published Live will be available first at the company’s developer conference in May to select devices and subscribers to Google’s $19.99-a-month Gemini Advanced plan.

In June, Apple Announce Its long-awaited AI-driven product, Apple Intelligence, can perform tasks such as identifying notifications that are important to an individual’s context, cross-app tasks, and letting Siri leverage OpenAI’s ChatGPT when it needs to perform tasks such as writing tools and creating images.

Apple’s system is currently in testing. Some early features will be available with new iPhones this fall, but the main features of the system won’t be released until next year.

New Pixel 9 phones and Pixel Watch 3

Google also released its latest self-developed “Pixel” mobile phone series, including Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, all equipped with Gemini AI functions.

The Pixel 9 series comes with an upgraded camera and a 35% brighter screen for better viewing in direct sunlight, among other new features. It is equipped with Google’s latest Tensor G4 processor and 16GB of RAM to support AI use. RAM stands for random access memory and is an important part of computer hardware that stores data needed to run applications.

RAM is a key component in smartphones to run artificial intelligence. Google has explain Memory size is the main factor that determines whether a mobile phone can run AI.

In contrast, only high-end iPhones released in 2023 will be able to run Apple Intelligence, which AI developers believe is due to the less memory installed in older iPhones.

The Pixel 9 starts at $799, which is $100 more than the Pixel 8, though smartphone costs have increased for most phone makers in the last year. The Pixel 9 Pro, which comes with a free year of “Gemini Advanced” subscription, starts at $999, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL starts at $1,099. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold starts at $1,799.

Finally, Google also announced the Pixel Watch 3. It comes in two sizes, 41mm and 45mm, and has a larger screen than previous models. New features include the option to plan running workouts, information about recovery (including readiness and aerobic load data), and AI-driven workout suggestions. Google also said that the Pixel Watch 3 is more deeply integrated with its ecosystem, allowing you to access Nest camera and doorbell information, Google TV remote control, offline Google Maps, and more. The Pixel Watch 3 has a battery life of up to 24 hours, and up to 36 hours in power saving mode.
