Gold Coast breakout winger Sam Clohesy insists achieving a first winning season in AFL club history would be “huge” for the Suns.
Gold Coast (10-11) will break their previous best for most wins in a season if they can beat struggling Melbourne at People First Stadium on Saturday.

Mac Andrew scored a late goal to beat Essendon last Saturday, taking the Suns’ win tally to 10 this season, equalling their best records in 2014 and 2022.
When he took over as coach before the start of this season, Damien Hardwick believed Gold Coast could reach its first finals.
That won’t happen as they sit 12th with two games remaining, but Closi believes they still have plenty to play for.
“It would mean a lot to the team,” Closi told AAP of the prospect of a win this season.
“We really want to achieve something, at the beginning of the year we wanted to get to the final, but if we can’t do that this year then our goal now is to have a winning season.”
“It’s really exciting and I really want to be a part of it.”
Closi has been a regular for the Suns since making his debut in the Gather Round, playing in 18 games since being selected in the rookie draft.
“I haven’t really realised how many matches I’ve already played and I hope to continue like this and get better next year,” said the 21-year-old.
Just days after defeating the Bombers and ending their road jinx, Gold Coast will be looking to carry that momentum back home.
The Suns are 9-1 at home this season, with their only loss coming against the Brisbane Lions.
However, their away performance was reversed at 1-9 as Andrew ensured they broke their away goal drought since May 2023.
“Pretty incredible,” Closey said of the extraordinary win over the Bombers.
“You never expect to be in a game where the whistle ends with a goal.
“I feel like the whole team is still a little bit shaky.”
