Various styles of trendy folk songs whistled, shouts rose one after another Starthey force themselves to forget even quicker the hits of a charming show.
Fortunately, there is one standard that has endured for more than half a century—musical expression and taste. Gordana Goce Stojicevic. On what would have been his 69th birthday, Goka explained to us the phenomenon of his songs coming to life, the so-called “vampires”.
– For example, I recorded the song “Nisi zane da čuvaš” when “Južni vetar” fell out of favor on the only TV at that time, and I was one of the first singers of Milet Bas. This song was avant-garde in 1983, and my God, it is still popular today.

Gorka is also one of the folk singers with the largest repertoire – from Mile Bas and Ralet Ćajić to Novica Negovanović and Zahar. Gorka’s songs have an evergreen power that remains vibrant after many years, epitomized by 1979’s “Without Him I Could Not Be My Dear Mother”.
– This song has been at the top of my repertoire for many years and is listened to much more today than when I recorded it. To older people it seems ancient, and to younger people it seems to be of their time. Once upon a time, newlyweds opened their weddings with Silvana’s “Dear, what would my life be without you”, and nowadays at the beginning of the wedding celebrations they more often say “I could not do it without him, dear mother”.

– The lyrics of this song were written by my lovely colleague Dara Ružić, who in the 70s was synonymous with spirituality and sensuality. The song was written by Novica Negovanović, who was just beginning to work with the arranger Dragan Knežević and his string players. She did not make it to the first album, and for a long time she was in the shadow of the title song of that album, “Goodmorning Sumadijo”.
And the 1982 song “That Night I Deceived Myself” has experienced a real resurrection in the 21st century.
– This is Zahar’s song that I recorded with the Radojka Živković Ensemble more than 40 years ago. Dozens of my colleagues, all excellent musicians, insisted that I dub it in a new arrangement. “Where did you find Radojka, she is cold and monotonous” – many asked me.

– I don’t even want to listen, I don’t want to spoil the melopoj of Radojka on the accordion. Radojka is unique! After all, who today would repeat Radojka, Miha, Jovica, Novica, Buca, Tomica, Pavket, Branimir, Kemish, Kodic? I have recorded more than two hundred newly composed songs, and I did not over-record any of them.
One of Goka’s timeless songs is “Hold Me and Forgive” from 1983. She did not pass the first time and became a true evergreen.

– That song was the first of all my songs that “pulled a leg” and became a real evergreen. I actually ordered this song from my friend Ralet Ćajić. I wanted to record something new based on an old Albanian song (“Da šuri”), in the rhythm of Seven Omens. Ralet didn’t need much, he poured out the melody and lyrics, which blew me away at the beginning. I just regret that Ralet didn’t wait to hear how popular it was.

– Aca Lukas was one of the first to feel the power of the song “Embrace me and forgive”. I was surprised when he invited me as a special guest to his song on the raft with Džeja, Nada Topčagić, Duško Kuliš, Novic Zdravković, Rade Vučković and other colleagues. It was a wonderful, academic gesture and a real “wind at your back” for the song “Embrace me and forgive”.
The song “Let Me Find Healing My Heart” from 1984 is experiencing a second youth. Some new kids who don’t like folk songs too much are listening to it.

– This song was written and composed by Asim Sarvan, a musician who has nothing to do with folk music. As far as I remember, this song was also offered to some more popular singers, but the female colleagues thought that folk songs had no “bread”. Tom Zdravkovic also did not like this song, but changed his mind when he heard me singing it. Later, Toma liked to sing this song in his performances.
As a result, both timing and quality suffered. The song that Goka resurrected (“Vampire”) filled the rafts, bars, discos, radio and TV shows.
– I did not make dishonorable compromises and scandals, although I know that there can be no white economy without the gray economy. I selected and recorded songs according to my taste, and the result was quite avant-garde. I waited for my songs of the last century to be sung collectively, perhaps because they were free of pathos and the sadness of killing. I did not record very happy or very sad songs. Even in music, rhythm is the most important – says the quiet heroine of folk music.

“Don’t call me, don’t look for me,
I am a member of the same group as the other me.
Don’t beg me, don’t remember me
I was yours.
You don’t know you’re watching me
I will never be handed over to anyone
When I found happiness
Now you say you need me.
Don’t ask me, don’t bother me
Recover from old injuries.
What surprised you?
The pain and wounds disappeared.
Can’t you see that life is
Our emotional game,
Newcomers are coming
This is something you would never dream of.”
