The Government of National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) is in the process of formulating a revenue-sharing bill.
The bill proposes a fairer and more equal sharing of resources to the provinces so they can carry out their functions effectively and deliver better services to our people and communities.
As the executive arm of the national government, provincial governments must be adequately resourced to be able to deliver services on behalf of the national government to all citizens in the provinces.
Prime Minister, Honourable Jeremiah Manele while delivering the guest address at the Makira Ulawa second appointment day celebrations in Kirakira, assured the Makira Ulawa Provincial Government that the national government through the Ministry of Provincial Governments and Institutional Strengthening was in the process of formulating a revenue sharing bill.
The Prime Minister also announced that the Provincial and Municipal Unions plan to review the Provincial Governments Act 1997. This is a further indication that the Act also features high on the Government’s 100-day agenda.
Prime Minister Manele said the completion of the review and submission of the draft Provincial Government Bill will provide useful options for our country’s system of government.
The Government’s 100-day plan adequately covers activities related to these two policy areas.
Prime Minister Manele reviewed the Kirakira Guard of Honour during the celebrations of the 41st Twelve Designated Day on Monday.
The government’s primary focus is economic recovery, which is critical given the post-COVID-19 world, the unrest of 2021, and the ongoing impact of the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the progress made in the Kirakira Marina Project under the Land-Sea Connectivity Project (LMCP), saying the project, once completed, would boost development and economic growth in the province.
Prime Minister Manele acknowledged that there are other potential areas for economic growth in Makilawa Province such as tourism, agriculture and fisheries.
The Prime Minister expressed the desire of the Gambia National Trade Union to ensure that all provincial governments have friendly relations with other municipalities in countries where we have bilateral partnerships.
Prime Minister Manele added that the province may wish to explore this opportunity as it has the potential to attract business and investment opportunities, people-to-people exchanges and other areas of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele travelled to Kirakira, Makilawa Province to attend the 41stEnglish Stone The second designated day of the weekend (Sunday) and returned on Tuesday of this week.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Fisheries Minister Nestor Ghiro, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Franklyn D Wasi, Health and Medical Services Minister Paulson Bosawai Popora and Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening Minister Wyne Ghemu.
