Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Alvarez has ruled out a post-Brexit Gibraltar deal before the UK general election on July 4.
The minister made his position clear on Monday after being asked about the progress of negotiations towards a deal between the UK, Spain and the EU.
Alvarez will meet with the mayors of the Campo de Gibraltar region of Algeciras on Tuesday to update them on the progress of the talks.

“As soon as the new British government takes office, I will meet with my new colleagues to make a final effort to reach an agreement,” he told a news conference.
This is the first time he has said a deal cannot be reached before July 4.
Last week he held informal talks with British Foreign Secretary Lord David Cameron at a NATO foreign ministers’ meeting in Prague.
However, Alvarez stressed on Monday that “technical negotiations” were continuing.
Still, unless the UK polls are wrong about the general election outcome, there is a good chance he will be dealing with Labour’s David Lammy from July.

He reiterated that only “technical work” needed to be carried out, meaning that if the change of government in the UK happens in early July as expected, it will not bring any major delays.
