Accra, August 27 (Xinhua) — The West African Medical Industry Summit and Exhibition opened in Accra, the capital of Ghana, on August 27. The summit aims to promote investment in the medical industry in West Africa.

The 2024 West Africa Healthcare Investment Summit and Expo was organized by the Health Community of West Africa (HCOWA), a Ghana-based company that develops and provides healthcare solutions to all healthcare facilities in West Africa, and was attended by more than 500 medical professionals and more than 150 exhibitors.

Ghana’s Minister of Health, Bernard Okoe Boye, who opened the three-day event, commended HCOWA for organizing the impressive event and stressed the need for greater investment in the health sector as it promotes the health of people and communities and creates employment opportunities for individuals.

“We are committed to transforming the healthcare landscape in Ghana and West Africa. This event reminds us of the critical role healthcare plays in the development of our country,” Oko-Boye said, describing the event as a significant milestone.

The official reiterated that Ghana is committed to continuing to be at the forefront of creating an environment conducive to healthcare, innovation and investment, adding that Ghana will continue to support the private sector in creating opportunities and improving the lives of its people.

Tang Hong, president of the Ghana Overseas Chinese Association, spoke highly of the fruitful results achieved in the health sector cooperation between China and Africa in his speech. He pointed out that health cooperation is an important part of the 24th Annual Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and has played a positive role in promoting regional cooperation and health cooperation between China and West Africa.

He said that the fruitful cooperation between Ghana and China in the medical sector is a shining example of the good results that can be achieved when countries cooperate under the common vision of improving the health and well-being of their people.

Tang said Ghana’s strategic location in West Africa and its participation in the African Continental Free Trade Area allow Ghana’s investors to access a market of more than 300 million people.

“Let us build on this foundation and create partnerships that not only meet the immediate health needs of our citizens, but also advance the long-term development of our health system,” Tang added.
