“The visit highlights the strong bilateral relations between the two countries, as Germany is one of Moldova’s most important partners in the modernization of our country and in the process of joining the European Union,” the statement said.

“I want to assure you that EU enlargement is in the strategic interest of the entire Union, Germany and Moldova. We are happy to support you on this journey. I look forward to our further cooperation and in particular to my visit to Chisinau this summer,” Olaf Scholz said earlier.

In addition, on August 27, the Independence Day, the presidents of the three Baltic countries will visit Moldova: Estonian President Alar Kalis, Latvian President Edgars Linkevic and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.

“The presence of these leaders in Chisinau is a testament to the constant and strong support that the Baltic States provide to the Republic of Moldova on our European path. The Baltic States, members of the European Union since 2004, have been successful in improving living standards through their membership of the EU. For example, over the past 20 years, wages have tripled and poverty rates have been cut in half,” the source was quoted as saying.
