JAKARTA (ANTARA) – The Presidential Palace in Nusantara, Indonesia’s new capital, has entered the topping-out stage, with the last part of its metal decoration having been installed, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing said.
“Thank God, we were able to witness and complete the installation of the 4,650th metal decoration, which marks the completion of the installation of the palace’s decorations,” Thai Presidential Minister Basuki Hadimuryono said here on Monday.
The 4650th decorative piece was installed on the west wing of the outermost eagle sail-shaped cover of the presidential palace. Construction workers hoisted the last decorative piece into place and decorated it with the national flag.
The installation process of the metal decorations took nearly a year since the first section was installed on September 17, 2023 at a ceremony attended by President Joko Widodo.
Sculptor Nyoman Nuarta, who was invited to oversee the project and designed the brass decorations for the palace, attended the topping-out ceremony along with Hadimuryono.
Nuarta detailed that the completed Garuda-shaped metal decoration weighs 1,398.3 tons and is 77 meters high and 177 meters wide. The metal decoration consists of 300 kilograms of brass and anti-corrosion steel parts, which were produced at the Nuarta factory in Bandung, West Java.
On August 17, Indonesia will hold an Independence Day celebration with the Nusa Tenggara Presidential Palace as the background. Unlike tradition, the celebration will be held simultaneously in Nusa Tenggara and the current capital, Jakarta.
President Joko Widodo will preside over the inauguration ceremony in Nusantara, accompanied by President-elect Prabowo Subianto. Meanwhile, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin will preside over the inauguration ceremony in Jakarta, along with Vice President-elect Jibran Rakabumin Raka.
