IFAC (International Federation of Accountants), the global body representing the accounting profession, sent the following congratulatory letter to Mr. Kamara, Head of Technical Department of the Financial Reporting Oversight Board (FROB) of The Gambia:
“We are pleased to inform you that, after an extremely competitive selection process, you have been selected to join the IFAC Young Leaders Alliance for a term until December 2025, with the possibility of extension. Congratulations!”
According to IFAC, they received an overwhelming response from young professionals and students from around the world, but Kamara’s “qualifications, experience and passion for IFAC’s mission stood out.” “We are confident that your contribution will greatly benefit our organization,” the confirmation message reads.
Kamara is honoured to be one of a group of young leaders from 23 different jurisdictions around the world who all share a passion for accounting and serving the public interest.
IFAC has more than 180 member bodies in more than 135 jurisdictions, representing millions of professional accountants worldwide. These member bodies and affiliates play a vital role in setting IFAC’s strategic direction and global priorities.
IFAC supports four independent standard-setting boards, each responsible for developing international standards in a specific area. They are the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB), the International Ethics Standards Board (IESBA), the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB) and the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB).
Mr. Camara, Head of FROB’s Technical Department, was warmly congratulated by FROB.
“On behalf of the Financial Reporting Oversight Board (FROB) Board and Management, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations on your recent selection as a founding member of the IFAC Young Leaders Coalition,” said FROB. “This prestigious appointment is a testament to your dedication, expertise, and commitment to advancing the accounting profession. Your selection into the IFAC Young Leaders Coalition not only highlights your outstanding contributions, but also makes you a valuable representative of our profession both nationally and internationally.”
“We are confident that your engagement with the IFAC Collective will greatly advance our profession and amplify our voice on critical issues such as sustainable development, fighting corruption, AI inclusion, and talent development and retention.”
FROB works to foster trust and enhance public confidence in the accountancy profession, increase the credibility of financial reporting, improve governance standards, and oversee the quality of audit and assurance engagements in The Gambia.
Mr. Camara’s service will focus on key hot-button issues such as sustainability, public financial management, fighting corruption, artificial intelligence, and talent development and retention.
Going forward, Mr. Kamara and his colleagues’ voices will be heard on the global stage discussing current and emerging issues facing the accounting profession.
