An ABU News survey has highlighted the need for training for journalists and producers as they strive to adapt to new technologies, changing audience behaviour and new forms of content production.
The Future of News survey was conducted by 50 journalists, producers and editors from ABU members between January and May 2024. They came from 24 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, from Samoa to Mongolia, from Indonesia to Nepal, from the Maldives to Uzbekistan and Turkey.
The comprehensive 40-question survey was designed to explore people’s views on issues driving change in the journalism industry and how these issues impact journalism careers and future prospects.
The survey results showed that respondents called for training in Generative AI tools as well as data visualization and animated video production. There were also calls for greater involvement of Generation Z in decision-making and improved pay and working conditions.
The findings will be published in a report titled The Future of News.
