Full joint statement
“I have just spoken with my host, His Excellency Mr. Pedro Sánchez, President of the Spanish Government, during his visit to Senegal. I welcome you once again, Mr. President, and your delegation. I am very grateful to you for this visit, which is a testimony to the genuine friendship and trusting partnership between Senegal and Spain, based on the shared values of love for democracy, the promotion and respect of human rights and commitment to peace and international security.
I expressed to President Sanchez his appreciation for Spain’s support for Senegal’s development through a framework cooperation agreement covering agriculture, hotel infrastructure, environment, defense and security, and the fight against irregular migration. I also thank President Sanchez for his friendly welcome to the Senegalese community living in Spain. We agreed to explore strengthening cooperation in priority areas of agriculture, vocational and technical training, industrialization, and digitalization.
In this regard, my Government is finalizing the development of the 2050 Vision and Public Policy Framework, which will be made available to partners and any potential investors. Spanish investors are welcome and I strongly encourage them to contribute to the achievement of our cooperation objectives. On the issue of migration, we are concerned about the large-scale migration to the Senegalese coast with Spain as the destination.
The Senegalese Government, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, is currently studying ways and means to stem these waves of illegal departures. My country will continue to fight irregular migration with its partners, including Spain. But in addition to repressive measures, the two countries need to strengthen their cooperation to eliminate the root causes of this phenomenon. The Senegalese Government aims to develop projects aimed at settling irregular migration candidates on its territory on the one hand, and to promote safe and orderly migration on the other.
Our interview also focused on other topics of common interest, such as the situation in the Sahel region facing terrorism, which requires attention: only the reading version is a real global mobilization of the international community, especially Europe, and the countries concerned, because it is known that the security fate of the African and European continents is closely linked. At the international level, Senegal shares common views with Spain, especially in terms of respect for multilateralism as the basis for peaceful coexistence.
For Senegal, only a multilateral approach can help address global challenges. That is why we reiterate our support for Spain’s initiative to support multilateralism. To promote a more open, transparent, equitable and inclusive multilateralism in the reform of global political, economic and financial governance.
Senegal, in its capacity as Chair of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, welcomes the decision of Spain to recognize the State of Palestine. In this regard, it reiterates its firm condemnation of the disastrous situation in Gaza, where the population is experiencing an unprecedented tragedy and facing the occupying Power’s disregard for the most basic humanitarian rules. Senegal reiterates its call for an immediate ceasefire and a two-State solution, which are the only guarantee of lasting peace in the region. ”
Note: Only the version you have read is the genuine one
