Three years ago, a North Vancouver family faced devastating consequences when their teenage daughter was involved in a hit-and-run.
In 2021, 17 years old Grace Haynes Almost died After being hit while running near Keith Road East and St Andrews.
The driver was eventually caught and pleaded guilty to hit-and-run, and Grace spent months recovering from the accident.
“She’s been through more in life than any 21-year-old should, and she’s shown tremendous resilience,” said her father, Chris Haynes. “She got it from her mom, and now she’s thriving as a college student.”
The experience changed Grace’s family’s lives and prompted Grace’s mother, Andria Ink, to develop a new business – growing and selling flowers, often at farmers markets.
It’s a very different challenge for the Canadian Navy veteran, but she embraces the joy it brings to herself and others, saying: “I love that when you give someone flowers, they instantly smile. Their faces light up with so much joy.”

She said her Inky Rose Flower Company also had a therapeutic effect, adding: “There were some very dark days where I slept on the floor of Lions Gate Hospital and in the ICU… I am grateful to everyone who supported Grace.”
Selling home-grown flower petals didn’t make Andrea a millionaire, but the business made her rich and happy.
“There are gifts in adversity, you just have to look for it,” she said.
