New perspectives in discussions move things forward. That’s why Turku Sanomat encourages active and constructive discussions on its website. Together, let’s make the Turku Sanomat forum a great place to discuss practical and interesting topics.

The editors of Turku Sanomat decide what topics are open for discussion. Not everything can be discussed. The editors may close or delete previously opened discussion threads at their discretion.

Participating in the online chat requires registration (you can do this from here). Registration does not require a subscription to the magazine.

You may write to the discussion using your own name or a nickname. We strongly recommend using your own name, as support for your opinions is valuable. Impersonating someone else or falsely representing someone else is prohibited. Your nickname must not violate good manners or be inappropriate in any other way.

All messages are checked before being published. This is why there is a delay in the publication of messages. Among other things, discussions are hosted from 9am to 11pm on weekdays and from 8am to 10pm on weekends. Editors can shorten and revise articles.

Online chats are part of the content of Turku Sanomat, for which we are responsible. The publication of messages is decided at the editor’s discretion. We do not have time to respond to inquiries regarding the publication or non-publication of individual comments.

If you believe a rule violation or inappropriate message has occurred in a comment thread, please report the inappropriate message in the discussion. The department will decide whether notification is appropriate.

If there is an error in a story, please report it directly to the editor, not in the discussion thread. This way we can get the information and correct the error faster. You can report errors by emailing ts.verkkotoimitus@ts.fi.

For example, an editor could use messages on a discussion board to publish a follow-up story on the topic.

You can comment on the discussion that took place on the same day within 24 hours after the article is published. After that, the editor can reopen the article that has collected many comments for discussion.

Published messages must comply with the following rules:

  • Read the article and comment only on its topic. Do not try to change the subject.
  • Do not comment on the discussion itself or on other people’s comments. Posts regarding the writing style or character of other discussants are not accepted.
  • The author is legally responsible for the content of his or her message. Messages that are racist, defamatory, incite violence or other illegal activities or infringe on the privacy of others will not be published.
  • Remember to be polite and don’t shout, swear or use rude names. Don’t make fun of others’ misfortunes or anyone else’s. Be respectful of other people who are talking. Be objective in your criticism.
  • Make sure the information you provide is correct. Do not share vague rumors or unconfirmed gossip.
  • Your message should move the conversation forward: don’t repeat the same thing someone else has already said. Don’t rant or write unfounded negative comments.
  • Write quickly, messages that are too long may not be sent.
  • You can attach factual links related to the topic in your comments, which will be checked by the editor in advance. We do not publish advertisements.

Violations of the rules may result in a limited-time or permanent ban from commenting or a change of nickname without a separate warning.
