French Consulate General in Jeddah celebrates Bastille Day

The Consulate General of the Republic of France in Jeddah held a ceremony at the French Palace on Thursday evening on the occasion of the French National Day. The ceremony was attended by several prominent figures, including His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Jalawi, Governor of Jeddah, Sheikh Saleh bin Ali Turki, Mayor of Jeddah, and Ambassador Mazen bin Hamad Al Hamri, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Aleppo, Mukarramah Region, and some members of the diplomatic corps. Among the participants was astronaut Rayana Barnawi, the first Saudi and Arab woman in space.

In France, the July 14 holiday marks the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille in 1789 and the celebration of the Confederation in 1790, as both events represented the achievement of national unity. The day reflects the fundamental values ​​upon which the French Republic was founded, including liberty, fraternity and equality.

The French Consul General in Jeddah, Mr. Mohamed Nahed, received the guests and spoke about the strong relations between France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Consul praised the deep historical friendship between the two countries and pointed out the close international cooperation, including France’s support for Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo.

He also highlighted the interpersonal exchanges that take place through the issuance of thousands of visas and the travel of French people to Saudi Arabia through the French Consulate, and mentioned cultural cooperation through participation in cultural events. On the economic side, the speech touched on issues such as the exchange of delegations and the signing of important economic contracts. The Consul also reiterated his commitment to strengthening the close relations between France and Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
