Yesterday, Friday, the French Embassy in Rabat celebrated the French National Day in the presence of five Moroccan government ministers. Ambassador Christophe Lecoutier stressed that Paris will clearly demonstrate the “importance” of its relations with the Kingdom of Morocco.
The event, which celebrates the National Day with the French community in the Kingdom, was attended by Moroccan ministers. Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, Primary Education and Sports, represented the Moroccan government, Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Riad Mazour, Minister of Industry and Trade, Fattah Alaoui, Minister of Economy and Finance, and Awatif Hill, Minister of Solidarity, Social Inclusion and the Family.
“A year ago, we made great progress, we discovered a lot, we began to weave the threads of a new history with Morocco,” said Christophe Lecourtier, Paris’ ambassador to Rabat.
Addressing Moroccan ministers at the ceremony, Le Courtier added that as the Kingdom of Morocco prepares to celebrate Throne Day, he has no doubt that “France will be able to demonstrate most clearly the importance of its relations with Morocco and express its desire to reaffirm its historical commitment to it.”
The French ambassador went on to praise the development of relations between Rabat and Paris: “I believe that we have rekindled many hopes in all the areas that bring us together and opened new horizons for the nature of our relations, and we have done this by going deep into our own hearts and looking in the DNA of our kinship.”
The French diplomat noted that “history has separated Morocco from France; but today their common destiny once again requires uniting the voice of the heart with the call of reason.” This is its destiny and nothing has impressed me more than wisdom and a sense of responsibility since I began my mission.
“Who does not see this? From the shores of the Mediterranean to the borders of the Sahara, Morocco is a factor of stability, tranquillity and development. And much more than that, because Morocco is keen to share these advantages in order to strengthen and rebuild the links between the world,” added Lecoutier.
The French ambassador stressed that his country needs Morocco in the future, adding: “We need each other more than ever, especially in the south, where 45 million children are born every year in Africa, compared to the population decline in Europe.”
Le Courtier stressed that for France, “its ambition is to remain, as always, a committed partner, with the greatest respect for Morocco and to listen to Morocco.”
The French official concluded: “We all in the Kingdom of Morocco know that there is no worthy alternative other than to create a space of peace, exchange and prosperity that spans the Mediterranean, thrives along the Atlantic and prospers together far from the temptation of chaos, plunder and fanaticism.”
Tomorrow, Sunday, July 14, France will celebrate its National Day.
The Consul General of France in Rabat, Sandrine Lelong Motta, revealed that the last four years have been very intense, from the lifting of restrictions on movement related to the health crisis to a significant increase in the issuance of visas to Moroccans, with more than 100,000 additional visas provided between 2022 and 2023, while also providing facilities for French-Moroccan higher education graduates.
