Yemen’s Deputy Information Minister Fayez al-Numan accused the Houthi militia of escalating tensions and exacerbating the situation in the country after freezing the bank accounts of Yemeni airlines operating in areas they forcibly control, warning of the consequences of the Houthis’ continued escalatory practices against the country.

In a special statement issued to the Arab News Channel on Monday, Numan said that “the Houthi militia took this measure after refusing to extend the humanitarian truce agreement under the auspices of the United Nations and operated specific flights to some countries,” while strongly condemning the Houthi armed forces’ attempt to take this measure, which is aimed at stabilizing the situation in the country.

Yemeni officials explained that the Houthi move was aimed at blackmailing the international community, UN envoys and the Arab League, undermining all efforts aimed at calming the situation and hindering the restoration of a humanitarian truce to alleviate the worsening suffering of the Yemeni people since about eight years ago when the Houthi coup took place.

The official noted that the Houthi militias are obstructing all humanitarian efforts of international organizations to the citizens of Yemen to address the current situation in the conflict zone, which shows their strong insistence and unwillingness to resolve the situation in the country, calling on the UN envoy to Yemen that deterrent measures are needed to stop these Houthi practices as it has a terrible impact on citizens and the country.
