JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi highlighted to Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan the growing bilateral relations between Indonesia and Singapore over the past decade.
“Over the past 10 years, the bilateral relationship has developed very well, including the ratification of the Flight Information Region Agreement, the Extradition Agreement and the Defence Agreement,” she said during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM 57th) in Vientiane, Laos, on Wednesday (July 24).
The minister, in a statement issued by his office, also highlighted the rapid development of trade and investment cooperation with Singapore, one of Indonesia’s important partners in both areas.

Besides bilateral relations, Marsudi said her meeting with Minister Balakrishnan also discussed Myanmar.
She stressed that Indonesia and Singapore share the same position that no matter what flaws the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) has in its implementation, it will continue to serve as the main reference for resolving Myanmar’s problems after the 2021 military coup.
“There has been very limited progress in implementing the five principles, not least because the Burmese military junta has not committed to implementing them,” she commented.

Marsudi and Balakrishnan also discussed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
During the meeting, Marsudi said Indonesia condemned the three laws proposed by the Israeli parliament, which, if passed, would list the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees as a “terrorist organization.”
“It is simply unacceptable that a UN agency responsible for the lives of millions of Palestinian refugees is being labelled a terrorist organisation,” she said.
Marsudi also expressed Indonesia’s position on the recent legal resolution issued by the International Court of Justice regarding Israel’s activities in the occupied Palestinian territories.
She expressed the hope that the General Assembly and the UN Security Council would follow up on this.
In addition to meeting Vivian, Marsudi also held bilateral talks with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sanjampongsak on the sidelines of the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Laos.
During the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Wednesday, she attended the Southeast Asia Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Commission (SEANWFZ Commission) meeting, a meeting with representatives of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), and a Troika meeting on the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC).
