Hip-hop artist Flavour Flav will be the official starter for the inaugural 22nd annual World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade, organizers announced today (Thursday, August 15).
On Monday, March 17, Flavor Flav will be the official starter for the inaugural 22nd Annual World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Hot Springs, Arkansas.
“Flavor Flav is one of the most recognizable legends in the entertainment industry and he will bring his infectious energy to our massive parade in March,” Hot Springs Tours CEO Steve Arison said Monday.
“He will be the perfect person to fire the official starting gun as our parade steps onto the 98-foot-tall Bridge Street.”
Flavor Flav joins A fascinating list of past parade startersincluding Forrie J Smith in 2024, Danny Trejo in 2019, Ric Flair in 2017 and Gary Busey in 2016.
Likewise, the parade has had some notable grand marshals, including Emmitt Smith in 2024, Cheech Marin in 2022, Ralph Macchio in 2019, and Joey Fatone in 2018.
Parade organizers noted that Flavor Flav was a Hall of Fame rapper, co-founder of the pioneering hip-hop group Public Enemy, and a musical genius who played 15 instruments.
He first came to prominence in the late 1980s as a co-founder of the band Public Enemy. With one of the most sampled voices in hip-hop history, Flavor Flav and his band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 and received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 62nd Grammy Awards in 2020.
In addition to his culturally transformative career in hip-hop, Flavor Flav has also branched out into reality television, with his series “Flavor of Love” drawing 7.5 million viewers in its second season finale, becoming the highest-rated non-sports program of the year and the most-watched show in VH1 history.
As he continues to perform with Public Enemy, including at the 2023 Grammy Awards, Flavor Flav has expanded his talents into scripted television, feature films, narrative film, voiceovers, podcasts, documentary filmmaking and book authorship.
Organizers said The Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the World Each year, it attracts more than 30,000 fans to downtown Hot Springs, where zany floats, marching bands, Irish Elvis impersonators, Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, eccentric costumed groups and guest celebrities parade along the 98-foot-long Bridge Street parade route, the shortest daily street in the world.
