The fire in Tucepi was caused by the negligence of local beekeepers, while the fire in Fulcina was caused by the spontaneous combustion of waste.
Forest fires near the Croatian town of Tučepi, near Makarska, and near the village of Vrsine have been brought under control. The fire brigade in both locations, in Split-Dalmatia County, announced this on Sunday, TASR reported, according to the HINA agency.
The fires are no longer as intense, so fewer firefighters are being deployed. The two fires have burned a total of about 1,250 hectares of pine forest and other vegetation.
Croatian authorities have reported that forest fires near the town of Skradin in Šibenik-Knin County, which broke out on July 30, have also been brought under control. Croatian public television HRT described the three fires as the largest so far this season and said rescue efforts were already underway at the scene.
The HINA agency reported that the fire in Tučepi was caused by negligence of local beekeepers, while the fire in Fulcina was caused by spontaneous combustion of waste.
In addition, three smaller forest fires broke out in Split-Dalmatia County on Saturday due to lightning, but were quickly extinguished and consumed only a small portion of the vegetation.
