Firefighters quickly extinguished the Bucheri Mountain Grass Fire – Okanagan

A Grass Fire It was quickly extinguished. West Kelowna Firefighters were out in force Friday afternoon despite winds fanning the flames.

The crew members are from West Kelowna Fire Rescue Department Just after 2 p.m., they headed to the southern slope of Busheri Hill near Darroch Park.

When crews arrived, they found a rapidly spreading fire that was being blown up the mountain by strong winds.

“The quick actions of firefighters extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading further,” the fire department said, noting that hot afternoons in the Okanagan are often accompanied by strong winds.

“Despite the difficult terrain, firefighters worked diligently to place hand lines and hand guards around the fire.”

The fire department said the cause of the fire had not yet been determined, but witnesses reported people fleeing the area when they saw smoke.

The police are also said to be investigating the matter.

“We thank the public for promptly reporting the fire, which enabled firefighters to quickly and aggressively extinguish the fire and achieve a positive outcome,” the fire department said.

“We remind the public of their obligation to pull over and give way to emergency vehicles with their lights and sirens activated.”
