Libreville, Friday, July 5, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – The First Lady of Gabon, President of the “Ma Bannière” Foundation, attended last Thursday in Libreville the official opening of the 3rd Scientific Congress on Sickle Cell Anemia, a genetic disease that attacks red blood cells.

The goal pursued by the authorities and the medical community is to reduce it based on scientific studies and laboratory tests. Zita Oligui Nguema said that fighting the intergenerational transmission of the disease should be an absolute priority and she immediately highlighted the ambition of the country’s highest authorities to create an integrated center to provide multidisciplinary care for all patients with sickle cell disease.

The Minister of Health, Professor Adrien Mougoungou, shared this vision and invited everyone to raise collective awareness to reduce sickle cell disease in Gabon.

The 3rd Scientific Congress on Sickle Cell Disease is organized by the NGO “Drepazérocytose Gabon” in partnership with the “Ma Bannière” Foundation on the theme “Sickle Cell Disease and Red Cell Disorders in the Health System”.
