Fresh off winning the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Spain will make its debut at the Paris 2024 Olympic Women’s Championship.

The Olympic football tournament is scheduled to open on July 25 and last until August 10, with 26 matches to be played throughout the tournament.

Historically, the Spanish team has never participated in the Olympic women’s football competition.

Olympic qualification for European teams has traditionally been determined based on their performance at the previous Women’s World Cup.

For example, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the qualifying teams include the Netherlands, Sweden and Great Britain, depending on their ranking at the 2019 World Cup in France.

The upcoming tournament in Paris will feature 12 teams:

France (host country), United States (CONCACAF Women’s Champions), Canada (CONCACAF Women’s Play-off Champions), Brazil (Copa America Women’s Semi-Finalists), Colombia (Copa America Women’s Semi-Finalists), New Zealand (Oceania Women’s Football Confederation Olympic Qualifying Champions), Spain (UEFA Women’s Nations League Finalists), Japan (AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifying), Australia (AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifying), Germany (UEFA Women’s Nations League Third Place Champions), Nigeria (Confederation of African Women’s Football Olympic Qualifying), Zambia (Confederation of African Women’s Football Olympic Qualifying).
