Femke Boll wins gold for mixed relay team with outstanding performance

Femke Boll scored a brilliant sprint to win gold at the Paris Olympics for the Netherlands’ mixed 4×400 relay team on Saturday night.

Boll, who also competed in the 400m hurdles, was fourth when he took the baton but quickly moved up to third and passed the British and American teams before the finish line.

On Friday evening, the team received bad news: Liemarvin Bonevacia, the Dutch 400m record holder, withdrew from the race due to a hamstring injury.

Still, his replacements, Eugene O’Mara, Lik Clavelle, Isaiah Klein-Ekinc and Boll, finished in 3.07.43, just a hair slower than the world record set on Friday by the American team. O’Mara and Klein-Ekinc are also the first Dutch men to win track and field gold medals at the Olympics.

A year ago, Boll lost the world mixed relay title in Budapest after a fall.

Earlier in the day, Karolien Florijn won the women’s single sculls for the Netherlands for the first time, beating defending champion Emma Twigg. Elsewhere in rowing, the men’s eights took silver behind Great Britain, with Simon van Dorp taking the title. bronze Men’s single sculls competition.
