Father of the late IDF Sgt. Roni Eshel, who was brutally murdered by Hamas on October 7, urged the world to recognize that Gaza civilians were among those who infiltrated Israel and carried out a massacre that left 1,200 people dead.
“Many terrorists have entered Israel, but not just terrorists, but civilians, who today are asking the world for humanitarian aid,” Eyal Eshel said. Jerusalem Post Women’s Leadership Summit Wednesday night in Tel Aviv. “Remember, there are terrorists, lots of terrorists, and there are civilians.”
Eshel accepted the Women of Courage Award at the event on behalf of his daughter, a vigilante soldier who bravely fought Hamas. She was one of those who forewarned Hamas of its impending actions that fateful day.
Remember Sgt. Ronnie Escher
“She was a beautiful girl,” Escher said of his daughter, who serves as a surveillance soldier at the Nahal Oz base near Kibbutz Nahal Oz. The base was one of the hardest hit by the attack. On October 7, 15 surveillance soldiers were killed and six others were taken hostage. A total of 66 soldiers were killed in the base attack.
“Her smile is the only thing we have today – the memory of Ronnie,” her father said.
Ahead of the event, Escher told The Jerusalem Post that Ronnie “started smiling just two hours after she was born” and radiated joy throughout her life. He said she embraced life with enthusiasm, cherished friendships, reveled in celebrations and loved food. Ronnie specializes in cooking, especially Asian and Italian dishes.
Ronnie was 19 years and 7 months old when she was murdered.
