JAKARTA (ANTARA) – According to the Director General of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) Arif Prasetyo Adi, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will receive the Agriculture Medal from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
In a statement received from Papanas in Jakarta on Thursday, Adi said that FAO representatives will visit Indonesia on August 30 this year to present the medal directly to Jokowi.
Adi explained that FAO awards the Agricola Medal to world-renowned personalities and leaders in recognition of their outstanding contributions and strong commitment to improving people’s lives, and their strong support for FAO’s vision of achieving universal food resilience.
The official said that 39 years ago, FAO had awarded a similar award to Indonesia’s second president Suharto.
“We should be proud that Mr. President has been awarded the Agricola Medal. This is a result of the government’s relentless efforts to fight famine and poverty and strengthen the country’s food resilience and nutritional intake,” he commented.

Adi further stressed that the Indonesian government has been making every effort to consolidate Indonesia’s food resilience, including distributing food aid.
“Our food resilience has improved. Various government agencies, including Bapanas, have taken a number of measures and we should be proud of that,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Andy Amran Sulaiman attributed Indonesia’s success to the persistence of Bapanas and state-run logistics company Bulog.
The minister said good collaboration among stakeholders in the food industry had helped the country keep food stocks and prices stable.
“Thank God, thanks to the collaboration between the National Food Agency and Bulog, we will receive one of the most prestigious food awards in the world,” he said.
